We are seeking a Controller who has previous General Contracting experience to join a fast pace, growing Commercial General Contractor who has an excellent consistent pipeline of projects in the Pacific Northwest. The team is dynamic, passionate, and some of the most talented in the industry!
Responsibilities:
- Team Leadership: Supervise and mentor a team of accounting professionals, providing guidance, training, and support to ensure high-quality work and professional development.
- Financial Management: Manage all aspects of financial operations, including general ledger accounting, accounts payable and receivable, collections, and payroll.
- Reporting and Analysis: Prepare accurate and timely financial statements, reports, and analysis to support decision-making and provide insights to senior management.
- Budgeting and Forecasting: Collaborate with various departments to develop and monitor budgets, forecasts, and financial goals, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives.
- Payroll Management: Payroll processing functions to include deductions, directo deposits, contributions, etc.
- Compliance and Taxation: Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements, including sales tax returns and union benefits, and work closely with external auditors for annual audits.
- Process Improvement: Continuously evaluate and enhance financial processes, systems, and controls to optimize efficiency and accuracy.
- Stakeholder Collaboration: Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including operations, procurement, and project management, to provide financial insights and support decision-making processes.
- Risk Management: Identify and mitigate financial risks, including analyzing WIP (work-in-progress) and ensuring proper control over project costs.
- Relationship Management: Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including banks, vendors, and clients, to support the organization’s financial objectives.
- Implementation: Experience with software implementation is highly preferred
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. CPA or CMA certification is highly preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in a similar role within the construction industry for midsize firm up $200-500mil.
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles, general ledger accounting, and financial reporting.
- Familiarity with construction and payroll-related platforms such as Textura, Paycom, or similar web-based ERP systems is strongly preferred.
- Experience with industry-standard accounting and project management software.
- Proficiency in using financial software and ERP systems. Experience with construction-specific software.
- Extensive experience in managing payroll, wage calculations, and benefits in conjuction with HR.
- Solid understanding of tax regulations and experience in filing sales tax returns.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret financial data and provide actionable insights.
- Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate and develop a team.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
- Detail-oriented and highly organized, with the ability to handle multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
